Kerngezin 是荷蘭語的「核心家庭」，由 kern（「核心、核子」）與 gezin（「有孩子的住戶」）組成。請注意後半部不是 familie。荷蘭語嚴格區分 gezin（同住的父母與孩子）與 familie（較廣泛的親戚），只有 gezin 會加上 kerngezin 這個前綴。
