葡萄牙語習慣用「e」（和）串連每個數位，西班牙語常省略 y
葡萄牙語會用 e 把數字的每個位值都串起來。像 1975 年唸作 mil novecentos e setenta e cinco，意思就是「一千和九百和七十和五」。2024 年（dois mil e vinte e quatro）和日期像 9 de fevereiro de 1975 也遵循同一規則。西班牙語在百位和十位之間常省略 y（mil novecientos setenta y cinco）；英語除了 hundred 後面會加 and，其他地方幾乎都省略（nineteen seventy-five）。葡萄牙語則把每個連接詞都保留下來，聽起來比鄰近的羅曼語族語言更冗長、更像是逐字拼出來的。巴西葡萄牙語和歐洲葡萄牙語共用這項規則。
