「niet echt」在荷蘭文裡是什麼意思？

Niet echt is the negation hedge. Echt means "really," and niet echt literally produces "not really" — exactly the same construction English uses for the same purpose. Dutch speakers use it to deny something partially, to soften a refusal, or to signal "the answer is no, but I don't want to be absolute about it."

A Dutch person asked if they enjoyed a film they didn't like will often say niet echt — friendlier than nee (no), less confrontational than nee, niet leuk. The phrase leaves space for nuance: maybe parts were good, maybe the company was nice. Niet echt preserves that ambiguity.

The phrase also works as a reaction marker. Niet echt? with rising intonation means "really?" with skeptical doubt. The two uses (mid-statement hedge, sentence-final disbelief) differ by position and tone.
